Understanding Your Reports
Learn how to read and get the most value from your weekly intelligence reports
Your RivalReport weekly digest is designed to give you actionable competitive intelligence in plain English. Here's how to interpret each section and use the insights effectively.
When Reports Arrive
Reports are delivered every Monday morning via email. If you have Slack integration enabled, you'll also receive them in your configured channel.
Report Structure
Each report is organized by competitor and includes several key sections:
Executive Summary
At the top of each report, you'll find a brief summary highlighting the most significant competitive movements from the past week. This is designed to give busy executives a quick overview.
Competitor Sections
For each competitor, you'll see updates organized by category:
Pricing Changes
When we detect changes to a competitor's pricing page, we'll show you:
- What changed (e.g., "Pro plan increased from $49 to $79/month")
- When the change was detected
- Historical context when relevant
How to use this: Pricing changes often signal strategic shifts. An increase might indicate confidence; a decrease might signal desperation or competitive pressure.
Hiring Signals
Job postings reveal a lot about a company's strategy. We track:
- New positions posted
- Role types (sales, engineering, marketing, etc.)
- Seniority levels
- Location patterns
How to use this: A surge in sales hiring might precede an aggressive go-to-market push. New VP-level roles often signal strategic pivots.
Ad Campaigns
We monitor advertising across Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Google, and LinkedIn:
- New ad creatives and copy
- Messaging and positioning changes
- Campaign focus areas
How to use this: Ad copy reveals how competitors position themselves. Changes in messaging might indicate new target audiences or value propositions.
Website Updates
We track meaningful changes to competitor websites:
- New pages or features
- Messaging changes
- Product updates
How to use this: Website updates often telegraph upcoming announcements or strategic shifts.
Content & Social
Blog posts, social media activity, and other content:
- New blog posts and topics
- Social media engagement patterns
- Content themes and frequency
How to use this: Content patterns reveal thought leadership focus and can predict upcoming product or feature launches.
