Adding a Competitor
There are several ways to add a new competitor:
From the Dashboard
- Click the Add Competitor button in your dashboard
- Enter the company name or their website URL
- RivalReport will search for and verify the company
- Review the company details and click Confirm
Using AI Suggestions
RivalReport can automatically discover competitors based on your business and industry:
- Look for the Suggested Competitors section in your dashboard
- Review the AI-recommended companies
- Click Add to start tracking, or Dismiss to hide the suggestion
Competitor Limits by Plan
The number of competitors you can track depends on your plan:
| Plan | Competitor Limit |
|---|---|
| Free Trial | 1 competitor |
| Standard | 5 competitors |
| Agency | 15 competitors |
| Enterprise | Unlimited |
If you need to track more competitors, consider upgrading your plan.
Removing a Competitor
If you no longer need to track a competitor:
- Go to your competitor list in the dashboard
- Click on the competitor you want to remove
- Click the Settings icon (gear)
- Select Remove Competitor
- Confirm the removal
Note: Removing a competitor frees up a slot for adding a new one. Historical data for removed competitors is retained for 30 days.
Best Practices for Choosing Competitors
To get the most value from RivalReport, consider tracking:
- Direct competitors — Companies selling similar products to similar customers
- Indirect competitors — Companies solving the same problem differently
- Aspirational competitors — Market leaders you want to learn from
- Emerging competitors — New entrants that could disrupt your market
Changing Competitors
You can change which competitors you track at any time. There's no limit to how often you can swap competitors, though we recommend giving each competitor at least 2-3 weeks to gather meaningful intelligence.
Tips for Effective Monitoring
- Be specific — Track your closest competitors, not every company in your industry
- Stay focused — Quality insights on 5 competitors beats surface-level data on 50
- Review regularly — Check your competitor list quarterly to ensure it's still relevant
